crow's nest
crow's nest
A platform at or near the top of a mast of a ship used as a lookout. I had been up in the crow's nest for nearly 10 hours without so much as a glimpse of land. From up in the crow's nest, Thompson spotted the spray of a sperm whale off the port bow. I could see the ship in the distance, but even from up in the crow's nest, I couldn't readily tell if it was an enemy or not.
