To have an exorbitant sum of money as a price. I've always wanted to vacation in Hawaii, but the plane tickets cost a king's ransom. I just can't imagine anyone buying that huge mansion on the edge of town. It costs a king's ransom! Believe me, it cost a king's ransom to transform this house from a dated mess.
