come from a good place

To have or be motivated by good or altruistic intentions, even if the results or consequences are undesirable. I know that you're coming from a good place, but please stop trying to set me up on dates with people you know. Most diet fads come from a good place originally, before being distorted into something totally ludicrous. As your mother, I'm coming from a good place, one of love and concern. I'm not trying to smother you.
