choose (one) as (something)

To select someone for a particular role or job. Whom has he chosen as his successor? Now that I've heard Alice sing, I definitely think they'll choose her as the lead in the school play. Al's so annoying, though. I really hope management doesn't choose him as the new supervisor of our department.
