To become popular with or widely used by a specific person or group. Unfortunately, that obnoxious song is starting to catch on with my students now too. That tech company is going to go bankrupt if its fancy new product doesn't catch on with millennials. That film was a surprise hit after it caught on with critics and got rave reviews.
