To be persuasive or believable. You have to make a speech that carries conviction if you want these people to see you as the best woman for the job. I heard that candidate's been working with a coach to ensure that his every word carries conviction when he's out among potential voters. I don't know how that guy still manages to carry conviction with the townspeople—he's never delivered on a single promise!
