To obtain or make use of something that belongs to someone else by sponging or begging. Hey, can I bum a pen off you? I forgot mine today. Tom always bums cigarettes off me whenever we're out for drinks. Any chance I can bum a few bucks off you for bus fare?

Sl. to beg or borrow something from someone. Can I bum a cigarette off you? You can't bum anything off me that I don't have.
