1. An exclamation used when one is dropping something from a higher position. A: "OK, just drop the book down to me here." B: "Sure thing—bombs away!" "Bombs away!" I shouted as I dropped the sheets down to my brother. A: "Bombs away! Hey, why didn't you catch it?" B: "Sorry, I wasn't ready!"
2. In sports, used to describe situations when a ball is propelled across a long distance. After that pitching change, it was bombs away for the Giants—they went on to hit seven home runs. Despite being undersized, their quarterback has quite an arm—it's bombs away when he throws to his receivers. He stepped up to the plate and it was bombs away—one pitch, one mammoth home run!
