blip

blip

1. A brief signal or flash of light on a screen. We were beginning to lose hope when a blip on the screen finally indicated the ship's position. See that blip on the screen? I bet you that's an enemy submarine. A: "It was just a blip. We should ignore it—maybe it was nothing at all." B: "You and I both know it would be unwise to do that."
2. By extension, something that is brief and inconsequential. Come on, that was just a blip in an otherwise fun day—stop dwelling on it. In the scope of the planet's history, human existence is a tiny blip and unlikely to last forever. The toddler years are tough, but you can take solace in the fact that they're just a blip in your child's life.
