A fortuitous moment, opportunity, or turn of events of great consequence, especially as relates to one's career. He had been writing for years, but his big break came when his third novel became a huge international bestseller. I had a big break when a movie director saw me in an improv group and offered me an audition for his new film. I can't believe I caught the eye of a real agent! This is finally my big break!
