be out of debt

To no longer have any debt owed to another person, corporation, bank, etc. It feels so good to finally be out of debt. Now I can start a meaningful savings account. Once we make the last repayment on our car, we'll finally be out of debt! I'd rather not make any big purchases until we are totally out of debt.
