To be in a place or area where combat happens, as during a war. Once you're on the battlefield, there's no room for fear. Hesitation leads to death. When I was wounded on the battlefield, all I could do was pray that a medic would find me before it was too late. Kid, now that you're on the battlefield, get ready for some incredibly long, hard days. It's nothing like basic training.
