To be an utter waste of money; to be a foolish or careless way to squander money. Honestly, your TV's image quality is already pretty spectacular—upgrading it now would be like pouring money down the drain. Gambling is the stupidest form of recreation in my opinion. You might get lucky now and then, but otherwise it's like pouring money down the drain! If you ask me, trying to get this beat-up old car working would be like pouring money down the drain. Just move on, man.
