To have positive uplifting influence on one, often during a difficult time. My best friend was like a ray of sunshine when I was recovering from surgery. I've always known Lindsey to be like a ray of sunshine, so it's weird to see her so down right now. Pets can be like a ray of sunshine when you're going through hard times.
