be in the hunt
be in the hunt
To be in a group of people who are all in pursuit of specific achievement, award, or goal. Our team is only a few wins shy of securing a playoff spot, and then we'll be in the hunt for the championship title! Lots of excellent players are in the hunt—the field's wide open. I still don't know who's going to end up being valedictorian—quite a few students are in the hunt.
