To have all or a very large portion of one's food eaten (by someone else). Tim's friends from college stayed with us for a week. We were eaten out of house and home by the end of their visit! Your entire extended family is going to be staying with us? We'll be eaten out of house and home! Kim is so tiny that I really didn't expect to be eaten out of house and home during her stay, but apparently she has quite a big appetite!
