To be involved with someone dangerous or troublesome. I'm worried that he's mixed up with a very dangerous crowd these days. Once you're mixed up with mobsters, it's extremely difficult to extricate yourself. My dad was mixed up in with some shady guys, and now he's doing jail time for racketeering.
