Originates from the Royal and US Navy, where it is an official reply to a command issued by a superior officer. A: "Can you be sure to pick up some eggs when you go to the supermarket?" B: "Aye aye!" Aye aye, I'll bring you back a drink from the bar. A: "We need this report done by tomorrow." B: "Aye aye, Captain. I'm on it!"
