at the risk of (doing something)

Said to acknowledge that what one is about to say or do could (and probably will) have a particular negative result. At the risk of sounding stupid, who was the second president of our country? At the risk of being labeled a spinster by ignorant people, I have chosen a life without marriage, and I am perfectly happy to do so. At the risk of sounding naive, I just never thought one of our own politicians would accept bribes like that.
