ask around about

To try to find out information about someone or something by asking a lot of different people. I've been asking around about our Biology final, and the consensus has been utter panic. A: "Have you seen my book?" B: "No, but I'll ask around about it." What am I supposed to do, ask around about your mystery girl? You don't even know her name!

 and ask about someone or something
to request information (about someone or something) from a number of different sources. I don't know the answer. I'll ask around about it. Ask about, will you? Find out what people are thinking. Please ask around about her.
