1. Dirty or slovenly. After spending all day doing construction work, Jack ain't fittin' to roll with a pig. You can't leave without showering, you stink! You ain't fittin' to roll with a pig, let alone be out among people! The kids ain't fittin' to roll with a pig right now—they just got home from school, and they're all wet and muddy.
2. Ill-mannered, crude, and insensitive; boorish. You want to bring Tommy to some highfalutin awards ceremony? He ain't fittin' to roll with a pig, let alone rub elbows with such high-class people. Geez, Tom, you ain't fittin' to roll with a pig. Have a little class! Why on earth did you invite these fools to such a fancy event? They ain't fittin' to roll with a pig!
ain't long enough
Said of someone or something that is lacking in money or funds. Can we go out to dinner next week? I just ain't long enough right now. I can't pay that much for a concert ticket—my bank account ain’t long enough. I ain't long enough for a trip right now, so I could only go if you paid for both of us.
church ain't out till they quit singing
Something is not over yet. Yes, we've had some setbacks this season, but that's no excuse to give up. Church ain't out till they quit singing! A: "We're down by six points with only two minutes remaining. There's no way we can win now!" B: "Hey, church ain't out till they quit singing!" It's not looking likely that the senator will be elected to another term, but, you know, church ain't out till they quit singing.
I ain't mad at it
A phrase used when one is open to or intrigued by something. A: "What do you think of this dress?" B: "Ooh, I ain't mad at it. Maybe in a different color though." My favorite character currently has three different men pursuing her, and while I don't want her to end up with any of them, I ain't mad at it! She should be front and center on this show! A: "I know carrot cake's not your favorite." B: "Yeah, but it's still cake, so I ain't mad at it!"
if it ain't broke, don't fix it
If something is performing or functioning well enough, there's no need to change or interfere with it (as you may introduce new problems as a result.) A: "We don't really need to implement these ridiculous changes, do we? Our current method is working just fine." B: "Right. If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Why do you have your tools out? Come on, man, the washing machine's fine, and if it ain't broke, then please don't fix it! Things are finally running smoothly in our department, so, please—if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
if it ain't broke, fix it till it is
An ironic expression intended to warn against damaging or ruining something that is perfectly fine by fiddling or interfering with it too much. A humorous play on the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Of course the school board wants to change the grading system because if it ain’t broke, fix it till it is, right? A: "It's a typical, unhelpful government solution." B: "Right? A politician's motto must be, 'If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!'" A: "We don't really need to implement these ridiculous changes, do we? Our current method is working just fine." B: "Well, you know how management operates—if it ain't broke, fix it till it is."
it ain't fittin'
slang It is improper or unbecoming. It ain't fittin' for kids to be screaming like that in a public place. You're a married man! It ain't fittin' for you to be out and about with a scantily clad woman! My parents definitely believe it ain't fittin' for kids to question authority, which is pretty annoying.
