adjust (something) to (something)

To modify something to fit or work properly with something else. We had to adjust the office layout to create space for the new employees. Gram's TV is so old that we can't adjust it to HD—we're stuck with this terrible picture quality. Is there any way to adjust a gas-powered vehicle to electric?

adjust to (something)

To become familiar or comfortable with something, often a change in one's life. A reflexive pronoun can be used between "adjust" and "to." I know you're not thrilled with this new schedule, but can you please try to adjust yourself to it? After growing up in a small town, I really had to adjust to college life in Manhattan. How has Uncle Ed been since the divorce? Is he adjusting to single life?
