In life, you will always succeed in some situations while failing in others. Used especially as consolation following some loss or failure. A: "I'm so sorry to hear about the game last night." B: "Eh, win a few, lose a few. We'll just do our best and hopefully win next week." We had to shut the business down this week—you win a few, you lose a few in this industry. I would have been thrilled to get that promotion, but oh well. You win a few, you lose a few.

Sometimes one succeeds, and sometimes one fails. Tom: Well, I lost out on that Wilson contract, but I got the Jones job. Sally: That's life. Win a few, lose a few. "Win a few, lose a few," said Fred, staring at yesterday's stock prices.
