BYOW

BYOW

1. slang An initialism of "bring your own wine." Typically used of a place or event that does not serve wine but permits patrons to bring it with them. The restaurant is BYOW, so I’ll stop and pick up a bottle on my way there. A: "Don't worry, this place isn't BYOW, so you'll definitely be able to get a glass of wine with dinner." B: "Whew!" Dang, I didn't realize we were going to dinner at a place that's BYOW. I could really use a drink!
2. slang By extension, an initialism of "bring your own weed" (meaning marijuana). After the recent legalization of recreational marijuana, a number of BYOW bars and restaurants began cropping up all over the state. Why does it reek of weed in here? Is this one of those BYOW places? A: "Some of my friends want to go a BYOW place tonight." B: "Are you nuts? Do you really think Mom and Dad won't notice we're stoned when we get home?"
