Present before someone, often surprisingly so. I had just been thinking about my old classmate Melvin, then I turned the corner at the grocery store and there he was, large as life and twice as ugly! The last thing I wanted to do was run into my ex-boyfriend, as large as life and twice as ugly, at 7 AM. I screamed bloody murder when I opened the door and came face to face with a spider that was large as life and twice as ugly.
