(you can) take it from me

Believe me because I have experience with what I am talking about. Try to get some sleep now, before the baby comes. Take it from me—those first weeks with an infant are completely exhausting. A: "I'm so bummed that I lost my job." B: "You can take it from me, getting out of that awful company is the best thing that could have happened to you." My last car's engine overheated, so take it from me—do not put off getting an oil change.

Also, you can take it from me. Rest assured, believe me, as in You can take it from me, we've been working hard on it. This idiom was first recorded in 1622 in slightly different form, take it upon my word. The current form appeared in 1672.
