desert rheumatism

A nickname for coccidioidomycosis, an infection of the lungs and skin caused by inhaling a fungus commonly found in arid areas. She's been coughing nonstop since her trip to the desert—I hope she doesn't have desert rheumatism. There's a lot to worry about in the desert— scorching days, freezing nights, desert rheumatism, coyotes, cacti…. I've been to the desert plenty of times and have never contracted desert rheumatism, thank goodness.
