To have many reliable opportunities, skills, or resources at one's disposal. With more than two decades of decorated service in the military, Colonel Hicks has many strings to his bow as he enters civilian life. My mother trained in various fields all over the world, so she has very many strings to her bow. A: "I'm thinking of taking up French." B: "Go for it! We should all have many strings to our bows."
