break over (something)
To crash into something and fall apart or shatter. This phrase is typically used to describe waves. The wave broke over the rocks of the jetty. Look at the way those waves are breaking over the shore. I'm just a novice, I'm not ready to surf in something like that! We all got drenched when a wave broke over the deck of the boat.
