blade

1. A knife. I shuddered at the sight of blood on his blade. In a panic, I grabbed the blade and cut at the robber with it. It was self-defense, I swear! That guy was coming at us with a blade!
2. A charming, worldly, and sophisticated man. I always welcome the company of blades, and these two gents are just back from a year in Europe! Who is that blade regaling everyone with tales of his trip to the Spice Islands? I have no interest in becoming romantically entangled with a blade, thanks. I just cannot trust anyone who's that much of a charmer.

brother of the blade

obsolete Someone who is adept at using a sword, often specifically a soldier. With your meager skills, you would never survive against a real brother of the blade. Why must you always anger Theodore? You know he's a brother of the blade and would defeat you handily in a duel! He wants to become a brother of the blade, but he's not very strong, and his reflexes are terribly slow.
