To be the sacrifice, difficulty, or unpleasant aspect that one must face as an inherent result (of something). Working extremely long hours is just the price you have to pay to work in this industry. I'm the one who chose to leave home and move to Europe—missing my friends and family is just the price I'll have to pay. You won't get much sleep in the early days of parenthood—it's just the price you have to pay.
