another day, another dollar

A phrase referring to the uneventful course of one's working routine. A: "How was work?" B: "Not bad. Another day, another dollar." I never thought I'd grow up to work in an office, come home, and say, "Another day, another dollar," just like my dad, but here we are. A: "Anything exciting happen at the office today?" B: "Nah, not really. Another day, another dollar, you know how it is."

Another day’s work is done. The expression became current in the United States in the early twentieth century, presumably when a dollar a day was a living wage.
