a grand old time

cliché An especially fun, exuberant experience. Often stylized as "a grand ol' time." Commonly used humorously, sarcastically, or ironically. A: "How was the party?" B: "It was a grand old time—lots of games, music, and laughter! A: "You want me to come pick blueberries with you? Like, all day?" B: "Yeah, come on! It'll be a grand ol' time!" You threw a birthday party with a bouncy castle! I'm sure the kids had a grand old time.
