slum it

To endure or tolerate worse arrangements, conditions, or accommodation than one is used to. Often used humorously or facetiously. My car broke down, so I have I've been slumming it on the metro to work each morning. The plane tickets were a lot more expensive than I was expecting, so we may have to slum it in a hostel while we're there.
