soft sawder

obsolete Ostentatious flattery or sycophancy, especially for the purpose of cajoling or coaxing someone (to do something). The wheedling clerk poured on the soft sawder thick into Ms. Meriwether's ear, deftly convincing her to invest on his behalf.
