rude slang An initialism of "no shit, Sherlock," meaning "That is or was completely obvious or self-evident." The ironical reference to the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes is meant to emphasize that the thing mentioned did not require any great intelligence or deduction to determine or know. Only used in informal written communication. A: "I think we need to clear that blockage out of the drain." B: "Yeah, no shit, Sherlock. Thanks for the tip." A: "I mean, did you know that our taxes are used to fund airstrikes in foreign countries?" B: "NSS—the military is funded with tax revenue. This is not new information."

Developer of network security, content security and messaging software GFI Software has announced the launch of GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner (N.S.S.) 8, a solution for businesses to safeguard their systems and networks from hacker attacks and security breaches.
According to the company, the new version of GFI LANguard N.S.S. has over 2,000 new vulnerability checks, using SANS top 20 and Open Vulnerabilities Assessment Language (OVAL) security definitions, in addition to the vulnerabilities which are discovered through the product's inbuilt vulnerability assessment functionality.
Network security, content security and messaging software provider GFI announced on Monday (21 November) the release of GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner (N.S.S.) 7.0, the latest version of its security scanning and patch management product.
According to the company, GFI LANguard N.S.S. 7.0 improves on its network scanning techniques with enhanced port scanning through service fingerprinting, allowing IT staff to track down unauthorized and potentially malicious services on their network.
In addition, GFI LANguard N.S.S. 7.0 offers patch management support for multilingual operating systems, allowing organisations to download and deploy patch files across the network in a variety of different languages supported by Microsoft products.
