Minnehaha

obsolete slang Champagne. A reference to a fictional Native American woman featured in Longfellow's poem The Song of Hiawatha, in which he claims that the name "Minnehaha" means "laughing water," which is another slang term for champagne. Once the Minnehaha started flowing, everyone got quite merry indeed. I got completely lightheaded after just one glass of Minnehaha.
