3. To shift focus erratically or haphazardly to different places within something, such as a piece of media. I know it seems like we're jumping around in the book, but it's important to compare these three different passages to understand the main character's motivations. He kept jumping around during the meeting, discussing things completely out of order. The film jumps around in time, playing with and ultimately subverting the audience's expectations.
