slang To be cheated or swindled (out of some amount of money). This is the third time this month that I've gotten stiffed on the bill. I was doing a ton of freelance work for someone and got stiffed for nearly $20,000.

To be cheated. This slangy twentieth-century expression may have originated among waiters who said it meant getting too small a tip or no tip at all. It was soon extended to other kinds of low or nonpayment, as in “I won’t work for this magazine any more; I always end up getting stiffed.”
