clodhopper

1. A large shoe. I can't wear those clodhoppers—I'll look like a clown!
2. One who is regarded as stupid, boorish, and bumbling. Of course that clodhopper knocked over the whole display after being here just five minutes!

puddle hopper

slang A very small airplane used to travel relatively short distances, such as over a small body of water (a "puddle"). We had to take this tiny little puddle hopper since it was such a short flight from Dublin to Edinburgh. Are you sure this puddle hopper is safe? It looks like it runs on triple-A batteries!

grasshopper

slang Someone who frequently smokes marijuana. Yeah, I've smoked pot before, but I was never a grasshopper or anything.

Fig. in process; in line to be processed. (A hopper is a chute for incoming work or material to be processed.) It's in the hopper. I'll get to it. Your job is in the hopper, and your turn is next.
