follow (one's) heart

To do what one's feelings and/or intuition indicate is right. I know I was making a lot of money at that job, but it was so unfulfilling. In the end, I had to follow my heart and pursue a career as an actor.

Fig. to act according to one's feelings; to obey one's sympathetic or compassionate inclinations. I couldn't decide what to do, so I just followed my heart. I trust that you will follow your heart in this matter.
