Dot or feather?

offensive slang Used to clarify whether a person said to be Indian is from India or is a Native American. The question refers to a bindi, a colored dot traditionally worn on the forehead in the Indian subcontinent, and the feathers worn on traditional Native American war bonnets. A: "I heard Sarah's new roommate is Indian." B: "Oh, really? Dot or feather?" A: "Janet! Be a little more respectful than that."
