a penny for them

(redirected from A penny for them?)

a penny for them

A phrase said when one is trying to find out what another person is thinking. It is a variation of the phrase "a penny for your thoughts." You've been awfully quiet tonight, honey. A penny for them? A: "Something on your mind? A penny for them?" B: "Sorry, I'm just thinking about this stupid work project that's going nowhere." A penny for them? No, no, believe me, you don't want to know—my mind is just spiraling right now.
