To come under the protection, tutelage, nurture, or care of someone. I was really nervous starting my master's degree, but I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of one of the top professors in the university. Our parents died when we were quite young, so my sister and I were taken under the wing of our grandmother for most of our lives.
