something that you own or control I've been renting this house for several years and now I want a place to call my own.
Usage notes: sometimes used with periods of time to say that someone is too busy: With a full-time job and a family to take care of, I don't have a minute to call my own. also used with can or could: Children need a little money they can call their own in order to learn its value.
