To make someone or something appear more visually attractive or appealing. My sisters wanted to pretty me up for my date, but I told them I was happy with how I looked. The real estate agent wants us to pretty the house up a bit before we put it on the market.
To improve the appearance or style of someone or something; doll someone or something up: We prettied up the guest room with some new curtains. My parents prettied me up in a satin dress for the piano recital.
