nail (something) into

nail (something) into

1. To affix something into some surface with a nail or some similar fastener. I tried nailing the picture frame into the wall, but it was too heavy for the flimsy drywall to hold. I'm going to nail a sign into the tree out front so people know that our dog will bite them if they try to trespass on our property.
2. To secure something in the desired or correct position by driving a nail or some similar fastener through it and another surface. I was able to nail the plywood in place over the windows just as the hurricane started to touch down. I'm just nailing these beams into position before we finish up for the day.
