make a day/night/week of it

To use all or most of a day, night, week, etc., doing something, rather than just a portion of it, so that the experience can be enjoyed to a greater degree. Primarily heard in UK, Australia. Why don't we pack a picnic, head to the trailhead early, and make a day of it hiking around the area? I think we should all split the cost of a villa near the beach and make a week of it!
