To run suddenly and at high speed toward someone or something. Our taxi was late picking us up, so I'm going to have to make a bolt for the train when we get to the station! I couldn't wait to get out of school, and I made a bolt for the door as soon as the bell rang. I was so anxious to be back home that I made a bolt for my parents as soon as I saw them in the airport.
