The basic tenets of a constructivist epistemology have a direct implication upon pedagogy; that is, acceptance of these premises implies a way of teaching that acknowledges learners as active knowers (Brindley, 2000; Noddings, 1990). Baxter Magolda found that most of her 101 students came to college as absolute knowers and left more strongly Transitional (70). We want to suggest that multi-perspectivalism assumes that all knowers are situated; globalization is a complex of phenomena each of which looks very different depending on one's point of view--here meant very literally as the geo-political location of the knower. |
